Ozuem Esiri Onyebolise is a Peace Practitioner, Peace Advocate, Peace, Justice and Human Rights Activist, Community Volunteer and Social-Impact Practitioner with almost three decades of community volunteering, humanitarian service, advocacy, activism and social-impact work across Nigeria, Australia and international communities.
Ozuem has devoted much of his life to serving people, strengthening communities, amplifying voices that may otherwise go unheard, and creating opportunities for people to connect, contribute and participate in building a more peaceful, just and inclusive society.
His journey has included working alongside community volunteers, humanitarian organisations, civil society groups, first responders, Rotary members, peace advocates, social workers, community leaders and changemakers, supporting people and communities affected by hardship, disaster, displacement and social challenges.
At the heart of his work is a simple conviction:
Every person deserves support in times of need, a voice, dignity, respect and the opportunity to contribute to building a better society.
THE INTERNATIONAL ONLINE MEGA MEETING
One of the most significant initiatives in Ozuem's journey is the International Online Mega Meeting, which he founded and continues to host and convene.
The initiative was born during the COVID-19 pandemic, at a time when lockdowns, closed borders and physical distancing separated families, friends, communities and loved ones around the world.
While people were physically apart, Ozuem saw an opportunity to use technology to bring people together.
His vision was simple but deeply human:
To bring people together when the world was physically apart; to create connection, bring hope, put smiles on people's faces, encourage people during difficult times, and help families, friends and communities remain connected.
What began as an initiative responding to isolation and separation grew into an international platform connecting people across countries, cultures and communities.
At its height, the platform connected participants from 89 countries, involving hundreds of Rotary clubs and thousands of participants. The platform brought together peacebuilders, humanitarian leaders, civil society representatives, Global Peace Ambassadors, Rotary leaders, Rotarians, Rotaractors, youth leaders, social workers, community leaders, changemakers and advocates for peace, justice and human rights.

For Ozuem, the Mega Meeting has never been simply about holding an online event.
It has been about bringing people together, creating belonging, opening conversations and reminding people that even when the world is divided by distance, borders or circumstances, human connection remains possible.
FROM CONNECTION TO PEACEBUILDING
The evolution of the International Online Mega Meeting reflects Ozuem's broader journey from community volunteering and humanitarian service to international peacebuilding and convening.
His work has consistently focused on bringing people together, encouraging dialogue, supporting communities and creating opportunities for people to contribute to positive change.
His approach is grounded in the belief that meaningful peace requires more than the absence of conflict.
It also requires dignity, justice, respect for human rights, inclusion, understanding, dialogue, accountability and the willingness to listen to people whose experiences may be different from our own.
For Ozuem, peacebuilding can take many forms — from international dialogue and humanitarian advocacy to community volunteering, sport, family safety initiatives and simply creating spaces where people can meet, listen and understand one another.
ACTIVISM, ADVOCACY AND HUMANITARIAN SERVICE
For almost three decades, Ozuem has been involved in peace, justice, human rights, humanitarian advocacy, gender equality, community safety, accountability, good governance and social inclusion.
He has consistently used his voice, experience and networks to draw attention to issues affecting vulnerable people and communities and to advocate for greater accountability, justice and respect for human rights.
In his home country of Nigeria, Ozuem has been a longstanding voice advocating for good governance, accountability, justice and the protection of human rights.
His advocacy has included speaking out against oppression, injustice and circumstances in which the rights, dignity and wellbeing of individuals and communities may be placed at risk.
He has also called for justice for people who have experienced oppression, abuse or injustice, and has advocated for the rights and protection of community members, particularly vulnerable people whose voices may otherwise go unheard.
His approach to advocacy is both principled and practical.
He believes that raising awareness is important, but that advocacy should ultimately seek ways to stand with people experiencing hardship and encourage constructive solutions.
For Ozuem, advocacy means not only speaking about problems, but also promoting dialogue, accountability, peaceful approaches, human dignity and practical action.
One principle that has become central to his work is:

This principle has guided his involvement in public advocacy, community engagement, humanitarian initiatives, peacebuilding, volunteering and international campaigns.
ADVOCACY FOR THE CHIBOK GIRLS
One significant chapter of Ozuem's activism was his involvement in international advocacy surrounding the abduction of almost 300 Chibok schoolgirls in Nigeria.
The Bring Back Our Girls campaign was a global social media and advocacy movement launched in response to the April 14, 2014, kidnapping of 276 schoolgirls from a secondary school in Chibok, Nigeria, by the Islamist militant group Boko Haram
Following the abduction, Ozuem used his public voice, networks and international connections to support the Bring Back Our Girls campaign and to call for urgent action, accountability and the safe return of the abducted girls.
His involvement formed part of wider public and international mobilisation seeking to keep the plight of the girls before the public and draw attention to the protection of children and the right to education.
For Ozuem, the Chibok girls represented more than a single tragic event. Their abduction highlighted the vulnerability of children, the importance of protecting access to education and the responsibility of governments, institutions and communities to protect innocent people from violence and insecurity.
HUMANITARIAN ADVOCACY AND DISPLACED COMMUNITIES
Ozuem has consistently sought to combine advocacy with humanitarian action.
Experience brought him closer to the realities faced by people who had been forced from their homes and communities. He engaged with displaced people, helped raise awareness of their circumstances and explored practical ways of supporting people who had lost homes, livelihoods, security and opportunities. These experiences reinforced his belief that humanitarian advocacy must remain connected to the people at the centre of the issue.
For Ozuem, it is not enough to speak about people.
Where possible, we must also be prepared to stand with people, listen to them, understand their experiences and contribute to practical solutions.
PEACE, JUSTICE AND HUMAN RIGHTS
Ozuem's advocacy promotes peaceful approaches to social challenges, respect for human dignity, human rights, justice, accountability, good governance, dialogue and peaceful coexistence.
His work has included advocating for the protection of individuals and communities, calling attention to injustice and oppression, and encouraging institutions and leaders to uphold their responsibilities to the people they serve.
He believes that peace is more than the absence of war.
Sustainable peace also requires justice, respect for human rights, dignity, equality, inclusion, accountability, understanding and the willingness to listen to people whose experiences may be different from our own.
His advocacy has therefore sought to give people a voice, draw attention to issues affecting communities and encourage peaceful and constructive responses to social challenges.
Through community and international platforms, he has encouraged people to engage across differences and seek dialogue rather than violence.

GENDER EQUALITY, FAMILY SAFETY AND PREVENTION OF VIOLENCE
Another important area of Ozuem's advocacy has been gender equality and the prevention and elimination of violence against women and children.
For more than a decade, he has supported, participated in and hosted programs, campaigns and community activities addressing family violence, abuse, respectful relationships and family safety.
Ozuem's has continued his involvement and participation in initiatives such as the Walk Against Family Violence in Victoria Melbourne, standing alongside community organisations, advocates and members of the Victorian community calling for safer families and communities.
He has also participated in the National Family Violence Remembrance Day Candlelight Vigil at the Parliament of Victoria, honouring people whose lives have been affected by domestic and family violence and standing in solidarity with victim-survivors, advocates and community members.
His advocacy is grounded in the belief that preventing violence requires more than responding after harm occurs.
It requires education, awareness, respect, equality, early intervention, safe relationships, community responsibility and a culture in which violence and abuse are not accepted.
SAFE FAMILIES — STOPPING ABUSE IN FAMILIES EVERYWHERE
Ozuem has also been involved in advancing SAFE Families — Stopping Abuse in Families Everywhere, an initiative focused on preventing abuse and promoting safer families.
Through his community connections, advocacy networks and peacebuilding platforms, he has helped create conversations around family safety, violence prevention, respectful relationships and the importance of addressing abuse within families and communities.
This work connects closely with one of the principles that has become important in his peacebuilding philosophy:
Peace begins at home.
For Ozuem, peaceful communities cannot be built without attention to what happens within families and relationships.
Safer families, respectful relationships, equality and dignity provide important foundations for stronger and more peaceful communities.
SOCCER FOR PEACE AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION
Ozuem is the President of Soccer for Peace Foundation International, through which he promotes sport and community engagement as tools for connection and peace.
He recognises that sport can bring people together across cultural, religious, ethnic, social and national differences.
Through soccer and community initiatives, he promotes friendship, teamwork, inclusion, dialogue, respect and peaceful coexistence, with particular opportunities for young people and diverse communities to connect.
His approach reflects the belief that peacebuilding does not always begin in formal conference rooms.
Sometimes it begins on a football field, in a community centre, through a conversation, or simply by bringing people from different backgrounds together.
ROTARY SERVICE AND COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
Ozuem has more than a decade of active Rotary service and has served as a Rotary Club President on two occasions. His Rotary journey has provided opportunities to participate in community service, humanitarian initiatives, fellowship, international connection and leadership.
His service has been recognised through a Rotary International Presidential Citation, together with other awards, honours and recognitions associated with his contributions to community service, humanitarian engagement, peace advocacy and social impact.
Rotary has also provided an important platform through which Ozuem has connected with people across countries, cultures and communities. His experience reflects his belief that service organisations can play an important role in bringing people together around shared humanitarian and community goals.
FROM COMMUNITY ACTIVISM TO INTERNATIONAL CONVENING
Ozuem's journey has evolved over almost three decades.
It has moved through community volunteering, humanitarian service, advocacy, activism, Rotary leadership, peace initiatives, international connection and social-impact work.
Throughout that journey, one thread has remained consistent:
Bringing people together and using service and advocacy to make a positive difference.
His activism has taken different forms over the years — from advocating for the protection and safe return of abducted schoolgirls, to engaging with displaced communities, supporting family-violence prevention, advocating for human rights and gender equality, promoting peace through sport, volunteering in the community and creating international platforms for dialogue.
While the issues may differ, the underlying purpose remains connected:
To give people a voice.
To stand with people experiencing hardship.
To promote dignity and respect.
To create opportunities for positive change.
FROM EVERYWHERE AND ANYWHERE
Ozuem continues his commitment to community service, humanitarian engagement and peace advocacy while maintaining connections with people and communities internationally.
His Australian community involvement has included peace advocacy, family-violence prevention, humanitarian service, environmental and community initiatives, volunteering, support for vulnerable people and activities designed to strengthen community connection and inclusion.
He continues to participate not simply as an observer, but as a volunteer, organiser, advocate, host, convenor and community participant.
His philosophy is straightforward:
Positive change can begin with ordinary people who are willing to contribute their time, energy, voice and resources to causes that matter.

THE PEOPLE'S ASSEMBLY 2026
The People's Assembly 2026 represents the continuing evolution of Ozuem's international convening work.
The gathering brings together an international community of Rotary leaders, Rotarians, Rotaractors, peacebuilders, humanitarian leaders, community leaders, youth leaders, social workers, changemakers, advocates and people committed to peace, justice and human dignity.

The theme provides a framework for international conversation around dialogue, understanding, shared experiences, reconciliation, peaceful approaches and practical pathways toward resolution.
The People's Assembly reflects Ozuem's continuing belief that when people from different backgrounds come together, listen to one another and share their experiences, they can create space for understanding, connection and constructive action.
It is therefore more than an online meeting. It is an invitation to:

The International Online Mega Meeting has evolved from a response to global isolation into a continuing platform for international connection, community participation and peacebuilding.
